This years winter was a tough and icy winter for us runners here in Massachusetts. I found it especially difficult to get out for runs. Then in January, in preparation for the Derry 16 Mile Boston Prep, I sprained my ankle! Here it is almost March and I'm still recovering.
After running 3 marathons in a 1 year timeframe, I ran my first 1/2 marathon this month! I ended up walking most of the last 3 hills because of this stupid ankle, hurting quite a bit, but I still got in right at 1:50... I'm not going to complain about that considering the miles I've put in, virtually none, and this ankle...
I ran a good part of this race with a lot of different CRR runners. It was great and I would not have done so well without them. I started out with Bobby, Sean, and Ted. Their goal was 1:50. They obviously crushed that, but it helped me with my final sprint at the end to make it at the goal time. I was quite pleased with that accomplishment. I look forward to seeing what I can do a 1/2 in without an injury and better fitness.
This week I start on pure fitness and put in miles when I can. Best of luck to all my friends running Boston! I hope to join you some day on that course, but it looks like it's getting a LOT tougher to get in!
